Husqvarna Multipurpose Wood Cutting Axe
If you want a fine Swedish axe at a fraction of the cost of Gransfors Bruks and are willing to put a little elbow grease into it, Husqvarna Multi Purpose Forest Axe is the deal of the century.
High Quality Wood Axe
The Husqvarna axe handle is hickory; all nicely aligned and grain direction on my axe was indeed perfect. Tightness of the grain was above average. However the linseed oil finish needs sanding down. A little scraping with a chisle near the axe head also helps. Finish up with a coat of bees wax/orange oil and you are left with a beautiful handle.
Hand Forged Swedish Made Axe
The Scandinavian Forest axe head is hand forged with the Husqvarna symbol deeply embossed. It shows traces of grinding marks and the edge is no where near the hair cutting sharpness of a Gransfors Bruks. However the Swedish steel is there and the profile is correct. You just need to be willing to devote about 2 hours on Arkansas Stone get it razor sharp.
This is a very fine tool for the money. Husqvarna Multipurpose Axe comes with a nice blade, the steel has very good edge retention. For me, bringing the edge up myself is part of the joy of owning it. This axe is indeed a joy to own and use. The axe quality is outstanding and with proper care should last for years and years to come. I think this is the best deal in axes. If you are looking for a multipurpose axe that can fell a small trees, easily lim fallen trees but also split wood around camp for the money I think the Husqvarna multipurpose axe can’t be beat. I may buy another and rehang it on a smaller handle.
Best forged axes Sweden
The profile of the axe blade is thin, making it good for limbing, felling small trees and making kindling. However its lack of wedge shape makes splitting of larger logs challenging, as the blade tends to stick into the wood. (ie, more of a slicer than a splitter)
The Husqvarna Forest Axe head is attached to the handle using both a wooden and a steel wedge to secure fastening. Suitable for small-scale tree felling, limbing logs, branch trimming and clearing bushes. The long handle gives power to the cut. Comes with an edge cover in leather.
