Marbles Outdoors Knives 700SB is a small, lightweight hatchet measuring 11″ overall. It’s a backpacker’s hatchet; a hatchet that will cover some basic needs in the backwoods without adding too much weight to the pack.

Marbles hatchet for someone who wants a lightweight cutting tool to use for shaving, cutting, and splitting small pieces of wood for tinder and kindling, not hacking down a tree or splitting logs. It will be good for hammering in tent stakes. Think of this as filling a role similar to that of a large bushcraft knife, not a camp axe. If you want something more substantial and more for splitting logs, then you need to go for the Marbles Camping Axe or one of a similar size.

The Marbles Outdoors Knives 700SB Single Bit Hatchet with American Hickory Handles is certainly all that and will be a superb buy for your combat kit or tactical training. Marble hatchet measures 11″ overall. 4 3/4″ 1045 high carbon steel head with 2 1/4″ cutting edge. American hickory handle with enlarged lanyard hole.

The quality of the hatchet was amazing. You could tell that someone really put a lot of care into the fitting of the head and handle. One thing that I didn’t like was that the blade wasn’t equally ground in some spots (the edge was flat) also it didn’t come sharp I had to spend a few minutes getting it razor sharp. Although this is a very minor thing, it would still be nice to have. Also the handle although it was of very high quality, it was extremely thin, like you were holding a toothpick. I prefer a handle with a little more “meat ” on it. Overall this is a great little hatchet but too small for what I would deem as camp activities, maybe carving would be a better job for this tool.

I bought this at a local retailer and overall I am pleased with it for the price. First, understand this is a SMALL hatchet. Tiny. Almost looks like a kid’s toy in the hand. This is not a problem if you understand what the purpose of such a small hatchet is and use it accordingly. My hatchet weighs 13.3 ounces per my digital postal scale, so it’s very lightweight. It’s a backpacker’s hatchet; a hatchet that will cover some basic needs in the backwoods without adding too much weight to the pack. It is a hatchet for someone who wants a lightweight cutting tool to use for shaving, cutting, and splitting small pieces of wood for tinder and kindling, not hacking down a tree or splitting logs. If you want something more substantial and more for splitting logs, then you need to go for the Marbles Camping Axe or one of a similar size. The photo I uploaded shows the 700SB Single Bit Hatchet in comparison to the Marbles Camping Axe, a Wetterlings Hunters Hatchet, and a Gransfors Bruk Small Forest Axe.
