Small, effective, but heavy

Lansky’s PS-MED01 looks very much like Smith’s Pocket Pal, which I have used and recommended as a good kit item for blade repair and quick sharpening of most blades. But the Smith has a plastic body while the Lansky’s is metal, so the Lansky is heavier.

5 stars because I really can’t find anything wrong with it

First of all I am not an expert on sharpening knifes and my plan for this tool is to compliment my hiking backpack gear. That being said, the purpose of this review is to describe how satisfied I am with the product and perhaps help you decide if this is the tool for you as well.

Worth every penny!

Exceptional sharpener – easy to use and really makes a good yarn on the blades!

A great tool to have in the field!

Wow! My father and grandfather were both carpenters. I grew up using a whetstone, oil, and a leather strop to sharpen blades. And that works great when you’re at home on a bench. But it’s not really an option when you’re far from home in the woods. And it takes me about 10 min to put a razor sharp edge on a blade that’s in good shape. For some tools in some circumstances it’s just not worth the time to go use a whetstone.

Good. I like it.

The two blade Vs are meant for a 22.5 degree (45 degree total) blade angle. Keep this in mind when you’re sharpening as it means that it won’t work for certain chef knives with 15 degree bevels (but is more than serviceable for field knives and EDCs)- of course, you can always use the ceramic or the sharpening rod for these types of knives. The V’s are self explanatory- pull your knife through the carbide and ceramic Vs without too much downward pressure a couple of times and you’re set. In this regard, the Lansky’s metal body is very helpful in keeping a stable grip for a straight pull-through.

Heavy, but a good tool

If your a knife collector or just have a bunch of kitchen knives that really needs to be sharpened, this very easy to use, very self-explanatory, blade sharpener from Lansky is a must have for quick blade sharpening. Was surprised how quickly it had sharpened my Kershaw fatback style pocket knife. Literally four even strides through the Carbide sharpener, than couple strides through the Ceramic slot for even a finer sharpen, and my knife was even sharper than when i had received it! And for knives with a serrated edges comes with the extra ‘flip knife’ style sharpening rod for mainly small to medium style blades, and maybe some larger fixed blades. This sharpener from Lansky is very convenient to have around the garage or your tool box. The apparatus is made of all steel, kind of heavy but just shows how durable it would be from drops, or from just rattling around in your tool box. Great item! It is just as advertised, and the pricing is decent and acceptable.

Good For What It Is

The first thing I want to say is that if you want to keep your knives sharper than a typical low-price, from-the-factory edge then you WILL need more than just this sharpener.

I’d buy this over and over again.

I’ve tried out many of these compact type sharpeners. Most haven’t been very impressive to say the least.
