Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe Review

Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe is a more professional axe, ideal for felling larger trees and for limbing a felled tree.

The Gransfors Bruks Forest axe is forged to a curved bit, making it suitable for cutting into fresh, resinous wood such as spruce or pine. The long handle also gives more power to the cut. It is the finest hand made Scandinavian Forest Axe in the world that still comes with a 20 year warranty!

Long handle also gives more power to the cut.

The axe is everything you would expect from a Gransfors Bruks axe. The alignment and finish are perfect. It comes with a nice leather sheath. Everything seems to have been well thought out and checked before the axe was put on the market.

The Scandinavian Forest Axe is a serious tool. It has a much more substantial feel than the Small Forest Axe, although it is still light enough to be carried in a backpack or used with one hand when carving. This size axe however is towards the high end of what I would consider carrying in a backpack over an extended distance.

The Forest Axe is for those who want to limb a felled tree in a traditional way. The axe is forged to a thin, curved bit and sharpened to make it suitable for cutting branches in fresh, resinous, spruce or pine wood. The long handle of the Scandinavian Forest Axe gives extra strength and power to the cut.

Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe

Gransfors Bruks axes are forged by professional blacksmiths that take great time and effort in their trade. The proof of this professionalism is in the way they are able to forge axes with such precision and beauty. There is no need to stone, grind, smooth or paint the axes in order to eliminate imperfections. At Gransfors Bruks, the forging crafter is allotted sufficient time to complete each axe or hatchet with the care necessary. The smiths do their best forging right from the beginning in order to produce the finest axes and hatchets in the world.

Best Axe Ever

Ok, I’m writing this for my husband. I got it for him for Christmas and boy did I do good. I was sort of clueless when it came to axes so I started looking at several kinds and brands. I finally settled on this one and I will tell you that it’s probably my husband’s favorite gift ever and we’ve been married over 18 years. He keeps it in the house and he even named it. Luke. He has used it several times already and it just slices through things like butter. The handle is so smooth and beautiful. Everything about it is beautiful. The leather sheath, the blade, everything. You can feel that it’s high quality. It came with a cool booklet that has a lot of information in it. It is expensive but worth it. You get what you pay for and this is something that will last and last. He wants to put up hooks to hang it in the house! He’s so proud of it. So glad I got him this. You can’t go wrong. Also, he’s 6’1”, 190 lbs and it’s not too small for him. He loves the size. Luke completes him! I thought I did, but it turns out the axe is the secret.

The quality is great overall, and the hand forged and tempered blade …

Outstanding general purpose ax! Just heavy enough to chop some logs, fell some lighter trees, cut limbs, but not so heavy that it makes the lighter work overly fatiguing. The quality is great overall, and the hand forged and tempered blade really holds a sharp edge.

What a sweet ax, I love it. Never thought I would say this about an ax. Balance is just right and sharp enough to shave hairs off my arm (be careful – just the hairs). Perfect for trimming and light chopping. Note that it is also balanced so that you can use it 2 handed like a big ax or one handed like a hatchet. Hard to describe, easier to just do. The booklet that comes with it is interesting and informative, nice to read. I have used it to trim overhanging trees on our fields and branches off downed trees and I can work faster than a hand saw and a chain saw (unless limbs are greater than 2 or more inches when it takes multiple swipes. Normally one good swipe cuts through 1-2 inch branches with no problem. Finally, the company that supplied it through Amazon delivered in one day, even though I had normal Amazon Prime. I was delighted and amazed. If you like and appreciate well made tools perfectly designed this is one of those to pass on to your children.

Very nice!

I’d pondered the idea of the GB and Wetterlings axes and hatchets for a few years before being able to afford them. I initially chose the GB over the Wetterlings based on my research, which indicated the more expensive GB axes and hatchets are better finished than the Wetterlings. I never got the chance to handle the Wetterlings in person before purchasing to compare the two side by side. I handled the GB in person before pulling the trigger and decided it was worth the price.

It feels like a fine musical instrument when you are using it. Really, just a great tool.

It just feels good in your hands

For it’s purpose light felling, kindling splitting, and limbing it has no peers. It just feels good in your hands. Much handier than a chainsaw for limbing on the ground. This is on my belt when harvesting firewood.

Very nice three-quarter axe

Very nice three-quarter axe. I was able to shave with it factory sharp. Handle is kind of rough, but a little bit of sanding with 220 grit fixed that. This axe works best on soft woods (Poplar, Pine) but still works well with harder woods like oak.

There isn’t much that can be said about this axe that hasn’t already been said. If you want the best quality axe this is the one for you. I purchased this axe for limbing fallen trees in the forests around me. It is light enough that you can hike it in a couple of miles with ease. There really is no way to go wrong with this axe,
