Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe Review
Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe is a more professional axe, ideal for felling larger trees and for limbing a felled tree.
The Gransfors Bruks Forest axe is forged to a curved bit, making it suitable for cutting into fresh, resinous wood such as spruce or pine. The long handle also gives more power to the cut. It is the finest hand made Scandinavian Forest Axe in the world that still comes with a 20 year warranty!
The axe is everything you would expect from a Gransfors Bruks axe. The alignment and finish are perfect. It comes with a nice leather sheath. Everything seems to have been well thought out and checked before the axe was put on the market.
The Scandinavian Forest Axe is a serious tool. It has a much more substantial feel than the Small Forest Axe, although it is still light enough to be carried in a backpack or used with one hand when carving. This size axe however is towards the high end of what I would consider carrying in a backpack over an extended distance.
The Forest Axe is for those who want to limb a felled tree in a traditional way. The axe is forged to a thin, curved bit and sharpened to make it suitable for cutting branches in fresh, resinous, spruce or pine wood. The long handle of the Scandinavian Forest Axe gives extra strength and power to the cut.
Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe
Gransfors Bruks axes are forged by professional blacksmiths that take great time and effort in their trade. The proof of this professionalism is in the way they are able to forge axes with such precision and beauty. There is no need to stone, grind, smooth or paint the axes in order to eliminate imperfections. At Gransfors Bruks, the forging crafter is allotted sufficient time to complete each axe or hatchet with the care necessary. The smiths do their best forging right from the beginning in order to produce the finest axes and hatchets in the world.
Gränsfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe Model #430 specs: 3-1/2″ face, 25″ hickory handle, Head weight — 2 lb, full grain-leather sheath, The “Axe Book”, 20 Year Product Warranty
Victim of their own popularity, but still a decent head.

I do forest restoration for a living. In my area, it’s somewhat common for land owners to not want chainsaws running all day. For that reason, I had to find l a short, light axe suited for use while on my knees taking out understory invasive woody shrubs.

Ok, I’m writing this for my husband. I got it for him for Christmas and boy did I do good. I was sort of clueless when it came to axes so I started looking at several kinds and brands. I finally settled on this one and I will tell you that it’s probably my husband’s favorite gift ever and we’ve been married over 18 years. He keeps it in the house and he even named it. Luke. He has used it several times already and it just slices through things like butter. The handle is so smooth and beautiful. Everything about it is beautiful. The leather sheath, the blade, everything. You can feel that it’s high quality. It came with a cool booklet that has a lot of information in it. It is expensive but worth it. You get what you pay for and this is something that will last and last. He wants to put up hooks to hang it in the house! He’s so proud of it. So glad I got him this. You can’t go wrong. Also, he’s 6’1”, 190 lbs and it’s not too small for him. He loves the size. Luke completes him! I thought I did, but it turns out the axe is the secret.

for years I used cheap hardware store axes and really other then use as a hammer or to split wood an axe seemed useless to me. for the past two years I have wanted to get a gransfors axe because of the great reviews and quality. my first impression was that I wished I had gone with a larger axe as it seemed a bit small for my 6’5 frame. a few days later I got to use it for the first time cutting up a large pine tree. got to the job site with a friends chainsaw that wouldn’t start and I didn’t want to fuss so I got to work with the axe. limbed a 30 foot pine tree in about an hour 4 truck loads worth. what a joy! after getting the saw running and cutting up the trunk I wondered why I even use a saw, its loud and needs gas and oil and bar oil whereas my new axe needs a wet stone! could not be happier with my purchase and knowing that this is a axe that will out live me!
A Superb Axe!

Since I am a rather small human person, I find this just about the perfect axe for all around use. The workmanship is excellent, the feel outstanding, and the utility perfect as far as I am concerned. I was brought up using a much heavier axe a great deal, but find the balance and feel of this one ideal for me. A larger, taller person may find this a bit small.

Quality, quality, quality. I was up in the air with this or the Wetterlings. I selected this one because of the finish and the fit. It has great purchase and heavy enough to do the work, but light enough for backwoods carry. I would certainly buy again. I keep one in my 4Runner and will be buying two more, one for my Outback and the other for my tool shed. Super handy tool. But please learn how to use an ax, this tool can really mess you up if you do not know how to used it.
The quality is great overall, and the hand forged and tempered blade …

Outstanding general purpose ax! Just heavy enough to chop some logs, fell some lighter trees, cut limbs, but not so heavy that it makes the lighter work overly fatiguing. The quality is great overall, and the hand forged and tempered blade really holds a sharp edge.
Great handmade tool

Everything one would expect from GB. Razor sharp utility and rustic beauty. I just wish they still used the metal wedge, other than that…perfect.
great feel and balance

This baby CUTS. Feels so good to swing, too! I read the entire axe book it came with, and I don’t really enjoy books.
