If you are a fan of hatchets, then you’ll want to own on the best hatchets made Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet.  Think of the Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet as the hatchet by which all other hatchets are judged by. Gränsfors Bruks is a must have handmade tool, a perfect small axe in the woods, around the camp, or around the house.

Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet
Gransfors Bruks hand forged steel blade is razor sharp

The Wildlife Hatchet is of excellent quality, hand-forged and made using traditional Swedish methods by Gransfors.  Each axe head comes individually stamped with the smith’s initials and 20 year guarantee.  In the era of mass produced tools, find solace in the fact that there are still traditional tools crafted in the old way out there. This small axe is a tool to use, to appreciate, and frankly, to get attached to.  Gransfors Bruks stuff is so highly regarded because it is so damn good. The Wildlife Hatchet is no exception.

When you swing the Gransfors Bruk Wildlife Hatchet you will appreciate notice just how clean and precise the cuts are. The Wildlife Hatchet is a cutting tool. The cuts are so smooth that they are what carpenters call “finish ready.” The hatchet blade cuts the wood fibers instead of crushing them, which results in deeper cuts with less effort.

The Gransfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet is a general-use small axe that is sized right for backpacking or attaching to a belt. Even with a small axe you can manage a lot, the Wildlife Hatchet is suitable for chopping and splitting sticks for the campfire and cutting branches in your back yard. Each axe comes complete with an Axe book offering advice on how to care for your axe as well as tips on firewood, limbing a log and other Gransfors axes available in the range.

It is the most popular Hatchet from Gransfors. Either the Wildlife Hatchet by Gransfors Bruks or Gransfors Small Forest Axe are the most popular blades made by Gransfors. The Wildlife Hatchet is a general camping hatchet that can chop, split and cut.

The Gransfors Small Hatchet is popular as a gift.  The 13.5 inch handles are made of straight grain American Hickory. The 1 pound axe head itself is partially finished, with a forged surface at the rear and a high polish near the front and covering the 3 inch cutting edge.  Leather sheath included. All Gransfors Axes including Gransfors Bruks Hand Hatchet come with the AXE BOOK and a 20 year guarantee.

I’d trust my life to this tool.

I wanted to wait awhile to write a review on this hatchet. So, it’s been a few months. I’ve taken it camping, cut fire wood logs with it, carved stakes, and I will use it to build my house. And a chainsaw, of course. But this thing is so well made, razor sharp right out of the box, and if you keep it sharp regularly, it won’t need any serious sharpening tools. I watched a lot of videos all around the web before I chose this hatchet. I also treated the handle with boiled linseed oil, then wrapped it with goat skin lace, and made a leather belt loop holder for the handle to slide down into. I’d trust my life to this tool. And I’m certain many others have said the same thing.

I can’t put into words what a joy it is to work with Gransfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet

I can’t put into words what a joy it is to work with Gransfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet. It’s one of my, if not the favorite tool I carry when I do backpacking trips. GB has a reputation for building quality, long lasting and beautiful hand crafted tools and the Wildlife hatchet is no exception. The hatchet holds its edge extremely well and sharpening is a breeze. I can sit here and tell you all about the weight of the head, type of wood and all that but you can get that info in the description. You can’t truly understand what makes a Gransfors Bruks tool worth it until it’s in your hand and you begin to break down wood. The feel is second to none.

Outstanding Hatchet, GB Does It Again!

This is an awesome and beautiful hatchet. The handle is a great piece of wood – the wood grain is perfectly straight, looks like it was oiled once or twice, and the actual edge is outstanding – smooth & straight. I have a lot of fixed blades & folding knives, as well as a few axes…majority of them NEVER come with a proper edge – even when they say “scary sharp.” However, GB definitely delivers on their promise. This is my second GB product and both were actually truly “shaving sharp.” For once I didn’t have to toil away on the sandpaper fixing the edge for hours…a simple stropping shined it right up and got it up to snuff.

A Bush Person’s Hatchet

This is one of the finest hatchets I have ever owned, and possibly my last one if I don’t lose it. It is a piece of art and a brilliant balance between a tool to process firewood, and a tool to craft wooden tools and utensils. It requires care and comes with an excellent book describing how it is manufactured, by whom, and how to care for it. Strop often and coat with fat or gun oil after exposure to the elements. Worth every penny I paid.

This Is A Quality Axe!

This is the sharpest axe I have ever used. The handle fits my hand perfectly, and the overall workmanship is superb. The only complaint I have is that for this premium price, I expected the axe to arrive in a nice box; it arrived instead in a cheap, blue bag.

Love it.

Best backpacking hatched I have ever owned. Hands down the best made, best thought out design, practical, ergonomic. Razor sharp. Awesome leather sheath. Have actually started carrying this in place of a knife, with a lightweight Mora as a backup. Seems expensive but compared to what I have paid for other hatchets this one makes the others seem like failed experiments that I wasted my money on. I am the most happy I have ever been with any hatchet, ever. Will never go back to anything other. I have used it for chopping, cutting, skinning, carving. I like it more than a knife now.

You won’t be sorry if you purchase this hatchet.

The quality is second to none. Expensive, but an heirloom to be passed down… not just any-old-hatchet. Incredible workmanship. I went back and forth trying to decide between the Hand (9.5″, 1.3lbs), Small (10″, .7lbs) and Wildlife (13.5″, 1.3lbs) Hatchet. I wanted it to carry in my pack when hunting. Weight was a factor, but the long handle makes the Wildlife a better choice providing more power when swinging.

A diamond among hatchets

Don’t underestimate this little gem. It functions better then you’d think. I disregarded it for years. Reminds me very much of the small forest axe. This is built with all the care, fit and finish that my small forest axe has. This is perfect when you don’t need the weight or the size of an axe. If you know how to use your tools, you’ll quickly realize that this amazingly well crafted tool can handle most tasks in camp and is light enough to pack wherever you go.
