Fiskars Splitting Axe Review

Got yourself a whole pile of wood that needs splitting?  Look no further than the Number 1 wood splitting axe, Fiskars X27 Super Splitting Axe, 36-Inch is a great investment and comes highly recommended.

Lightweight Axe with One Strike Splitting Power

The splitting power of the lightweight axe is amazing. Fiskars Axe claims one strike splits and the majority of the swings with this axe split the wood with one strike.  The upside of this axe is that your arms won’t get tired swinging it all day!

Traditional axes that can be heavy, quick to dull and easy to break, X-Series Axes combine perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance.

Sharpest Tool in the Shed

Fiskars Super Splitting Axe blade is very sharp. No matter what you do with your wood splitting axe, over time your axe blade will become dull.  Fiskars offers an optional Axe and Knife sharpener at an affordable price.

Chopping Block is a Must Have

To prevent your axe blade from chipping or dulling, place your wood on a block or other similar surface. By splitting on a block it not only protects the blade from going into the dirt, but it’s also safer.

Less time, less effort and less hand strain

Ideal for taller users or anyone who prefers a longer axe, our much-requested X27 Splitting Axe provides power that makes splitting medium-sized to extra-large logs easier than ever.

Like every X-Series™ Hatchet or Axe, the X27 combines perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance. This combination of features allows the blade to disperse wood more effectively, offering more one-strike splits with each swing.

It also includes our longest handle for increased leverage to maximize the power and speed of taller users. Since you can split wood more easily with the X27, each job requires less time, less effort and less hand strain. Fiskars Super Splitting Axe is the Best Wood Splitting Axe you can own.

You may have noticed that this product description states that it recommends “taller users”. As you can see from the picture, it is only about 2″ longer than other common tools in its class. I think what Fiskars is trying to say without offending anyone, is that this product is for people strong enough to wield it. It is longer and heavier than the 4lb speed maul to the right of it in the picture. It is also razor sharp, unlike the other two axes in the picture.

The older I get, the more I prefer to actually spend a little money on certain products (like axes) so I don’t have to replace them in a few seasons. This is a solid choice for splitting wood at home that is likely to last a lifetime (or at least a few decades if you take care of it).

Ok so I am a 5 foot 1 inch female. I had no idea which splitting axe to buy. I had never had to chop my own wood before. I bought the smaller one of these that is 14 inches and realized it wasn’t going to split my wood for the winter. So, I bought this one. I was told it was too big for me. I used it anyway. Guess who can split wood with 2 strikes? This girl! (Not every piece with 2 strikes but I’m working on it). I absolutely LOVE to go out and split wood now. I had my 7 year old grandson out there with the little axe today and we both stayed out there enjoying the fresh air and the sound of axes cracking against firewood.

I’ve had this axe now for a little over six years and couldn’t be happier with a purchase. It’s a remarkably potent maul for the size and weight. With reasonable dry wood under 18″ in diameter or so you can almost always split the round with a single shot. I’m not sure how you could get much better performance without going up to a heavier head. The hollow handle shaves a good amount of weigh off the axe, very nice if you’re packing it on a backpack. Despite the light weight that handle is extremely sturdy; I’ve overshot many pieces of wood but the handle has been totally unaffected after six years.

WOW!! This ax is incredible! For the last couple years I’ve been using a Husky that I thought was good. I kept the blade razor sharp with a bench grinder and figured that’s as good as it gets. But when I decided to go all-in with heating the house with the wood stove this year, I needed to buy a backup ax, so I looked at reviews and bought this Fiskars X27. This thing MELTS thorough wood. It never gets stuck. My old ax I would spend so much effort and time prying it out of knotty wood. The Fiskars only takes seconds to get out of the deepest wood, it just slips right out. I split about 1.5 cords the first day I had it. I can’t say enough about this tool.
