Fiskars Splitting Axe Review

Got yourself a whole pile of wood that needs splitting?  Look no further than the Number 1 wood splitting axe, Fiskars X27 Super Splitting Axe, 36-Inch is a great investment and comes highly recommended.

Lightweight Axe with One Strike Splitting Power

The splitting power of the lightweight axe is amazing. Fiskars Axe claims one strike splits and the majority of the swings with this axe split the wood with one strike.  The upside of this axe is that your arms won’t get tired swinging it all day!

Traditional axes that can be heavy, quick to dull and easy to break, X-Series Axes combine perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance.

Sharpest Tool in the Shed

Fiskars Super Splitting Axe blade is very sharp. No matter what you do with your wood splitting axe, over time your axe blade will become dull.  Fiskars offers an optional Axe and Knife sharpener at an affordable price.

Chopping Block is a Must Have

To prevent your axe blade from chipping or dulling, place your wood on a block or other similar surface. By splitting on a block it not only protects the blade from going into the dirt, but it’s also safer.

Less time, less effort and less hand strain

Ideal for taller users or anyone who prefers a longer axe, our much-requested X27 Splitting Axe provides power that makes splitting medium-sized to extra-large logs easier than ever.

Like every X-Series™ Hatchet or Axe, the X27 combines perfected weight distribution, advanced blade geometry, an ultra-sharp edge and virtually unbreakable design to maximize your performance. This combination of features allows the blade to disperse wood more effectively, offering more one-strike splits with each swing.

It also includes our longest handle for increased leverage to maximize the power and speed of taller users. Since you can split wood more easily with the X27, each job requires less time, less effort and less hand strain. Fiskars Super Splitting Axe is the Best Wood Splitting Axe you can own.

You may have noticed that this product description states that it recommends “taller users”. As you can see from the picture, it is only about 2″ longer than other common tools in its class. I think what Fiskars is trying to say without offending anyone, is that this product is for people strong enough to wield it. It is longer and heavier than the 4lb speed maul to the right of it in the picture. It is also razor sharp, unlike the other two axes in the picture.

Best Splitting Axe Ever.

I have owned many many splitting axes and have used axes and heavy forestry tools my whole life. This is by far the BEST splitting axe I have ever used. One hit every time (unless I do something stupid). The fiberglass/plastic (not 100% sure on the material) handle absorbs any shock one might feel and the rubberized handle end means i have total control over the swing every time. The head is so firmly held in place I don’t know if I could break it if I tried. And the edge stays sharp forever. The included axe head protector is a nice touch. I keep one of these in the back of my Jeep at all times. Such a good tool.

100% impressed. Light, easy to swing, and super-effective!

Awesome splitting axe! I really think the design and Teflon coating makes a huge difference in splitting effectiveness. I was splitting 12″ rounds with one, maybe two swings. It was so markedly different than my old maul, I actually tried reducing my swing effort and was still splitting in no more than two throws (usually)! Saved my back. Maybe I was blessed with some obedient logs, so I’ll update this after a season and variety of wood. But so far, I’m very impressed after the first cord. By the way, I’m 5’9″ and got the 23.5″ handle. It feels like just about the right length for me.

I might just have to buy another as well!

I bought this just to break up some logs and make kindling, and this axe makes the job so darned easy, and makes the user look like a pro. Absolutely no effort is required to split logs with this using one hand. I’m astounded at how well this did at literally splitting logs on one pass, especially if you go with the grain (you’re supposed to). I might have to buy another, just in case they outsource manufacturing or change the design. The end of the handle also allows you to swing easily as it sticks into your palm comfortably.

Perfect splitting axe, good size for 5′ 10" person

The 1000 or so positive reviews really speak to the quality of this axe… I’ll try to add a few details to the praise:

I had high expectations of this axe. It had positive reviews and it is, after all, a Fiskars product. I was still Impressed. I am using the axe to split wood. If you’ve done this you understand how gratifying it is to have the log fly apart when you striket true. The angle between the two faces of this axe is aggressive. Well-placed hits result in pieces landing 5-10 feet on each side of the stump. Very gratifying. It is holding an edge very well, though I have to say that I have not been using it all that long. As I said, though, it is a Fiskars so it will almost certainly hold an edge for a long time. The axe handle is made of a very tough structural plastic. The yellow part of the handle is actually hollow (perhaps to move the balance point / center or impact toward the head?). It’s been a long time since I chopped wood and initially I was rusty. I’ve also been teaching my sons to split wood. Predictably, we have all managed to over-reach several times so the axe head goes beyond the log and the axe handle impacts the log. If you do this with a wooden axe, it won’t last very long and it begins to crack splinter almost imediately. This polyemer handle is untouched. *Maybe* scuffed. I think we could do it all day long, though, and the handle would not fail. The polymer is molded around the head. It is *tight* and I can see no way for the head to get loose. The balance of it feels very good. When I bury it in the stump after a good hit, it takes almost no effort to remove, most likely due to that high-angle between the two faces of the axe. I would say that I would never buy any other axe other than this one, except that I’m fairly certain I shall never another one – I don’t think this one will ever die.

I…LOVE…these…axes. I already owned the X15, which convinced me to purchase this and the X7 hatchet.

Gets the job done, very sharp out of the box.

This ase is awesome. I haven’t had a lot of wood splitting experience, but after 10 minutes I really got going. It is super sharp, if you drop it on the edge of a cardboard box it will go right through! Use caution. I really liked that the sharpener was included as well. Vibration dampening seems pretty decent, but I really don’t have much to compare it to.
