Kershaw Cryo Review

Looking for a simple everyday carry pocket knife? Then Kershaw Cryo may be just the edc knife you need. The Cryo blade is 2.75” long, and the “speedsafe” assisted opening mechanism makes it easy to open one-handed. There’s also a lockbar stabilizer so the blade goes where it’s supposed to go when it opens, instead of opening part-way, and a thumbstud for controlled opening.

Best Every Day Carry Knife

The Cryo Knife handle has a pocketclip on the side for easy carrying, and the pocketclip can be positioned tip up or down, making it easier for lefties and righties to carry their Cryo where it’s most comfortable for them. The handle and the body are both steel, with a tarnish-resistant titanium carbo-nitride coating on the exterior for texture and to protect it from wear and tear. It’s a small blade, perfect for regular use, and—as some of the testimonials at Kershaw’s site note—it’s easy to sharpen after you’ve used it for a long time, and sharp knives are safer than dull ones.

Kershaw Cryo Specs

This is a classic Rick Hinderer design, but built in pure steel with matte grey titanium carbo-nitride coating on both blade and handle. The Kershaw Cryo (#1555TI) opens quickly with SpeedSafe assisted opening. Access it with the built-in Flipper or thumbstud. A sturdy framelock with lockbar stabilization ensures a solid lockup. This amazingly affordable everyday knife by Kershaw is destined to be the Hinderer for the rest of us.

Above average knife, very stiff out of the box

For me this is too heavy for EDC. I can tell it’s in my pocket. The assisted opening isn’t very smooth and it’s a little stiff and awkward to open, maybe after opening it a few hundred times it will loosen up. Using the thumb post to open it instead of the spring assist is almost impossible out of the box. Closing it is a little awkward too because of the stiffness. Finally it wasn’t that sharp out of the box. Sharp but not as sharp as I usually like my knives, probably okay for most people.

Perfect for federal carry

Love the design of this knife. Both absolutely gorgeous and functional. Great feel in hand. Well constructed with quality materials. Tight lock up. The pocket clip allows for deep carry so the entire knife is unseen when in your pocket, I love that. The knife’s width is slim, avoiding a bulky feel when concealing. Opens readily, but not too easily. This is perfect for all my casual everyday needs (cutting open a package, peeling an orange, slicing an apple, cutting line/thin rope, etc) however this knife (with its short, less than 3inches, blade and non serrated edge) is not meant for heavy duty work. Still, it can be called upon in a defensive situation if need be. The knife has a bit of heft to it for its size but not too heavy and has a good balance. Amazing value, especially on Amazon (these knives are $40 at your local sporting goods store). I plan to buy several more of these just to have around or give as gifts, perfect stocking stuffer.

Just the right size!

So I love Kershaw knives. People can endlessly debate whether SpyderCo is better, etc. etc. but I am a big fan of Kershaw.

Perfect for me!

I’ve carried a knife daily for 20+ years. Used to carry one of a couple of slim knives with no clip, down in my pocket. About 12 years ago I started carrying a pocket clip knife and never looked back. The first important feature I needed was a locking knife. Then I started looking for slimmer and slimmer. Found a few, but I just don’t understand why so many knife makers have pocket clip knives that have screws or clips or handle shapes that catch on your pocket every time you slip it in or take it out.

Great knife.

I have a cyro 2 and I love that knife. I saw this as a deal of the day and for $18 I figured I’d grab this just because I love my other cyro2 so much. good for a spare for me or I may even like the smaller size better. came sharp and in good shape. 5/5 (key for scale)
