Kershaw Cryo Review

Looking for a simple everyday carry pocket knife? Then Kershaw Cryo may be just the edc knife you need. The Cryo blade is 2.75” long, and the “speedsafe” assisted opening mechanism makes it easy to open one-handed. There’s also a lockbar stabilizer so the blade goes where it’s supposed to go when it opens, instead of opening part-way, and a thumbstud for controlled opening.

Best Every Day Carry Knife

The Cryo Knife handle has a pocketclip on the side for easy carrying, and the pocketclip can be positioned tip up or down, making it easier for lefties and righties to carry their Cryo where it’s most comfortable for them. The handle and the body are both steel, with a tarnish-resistant titanium carbo-nitride coating on the exterior for texture and to protect it from wear and tear. It’s a small blade, perfect for regular use, and—as some of the testimonials at Kershaw’s site note—it’s easy to sharpen after you’ve used it for a long time, and sharp knives are safer than dull ones.

Kershaw Cryo Specs

This is a classic Rick Hinderer design, but built in pure steel with matte grey titanium carbo-nitride coating on both blade and handle. The Kershaw Cryo (#1555TI) opens quickly with SpeedSafe assisted opening. Access it with the built-in Flipper or thumbstud. A sturdy framelock with lockbar stabilization ensures a solid lockup. This amazingly affordable everyday knife by Kershaw is destined to be the Hinderer for the rest of us.

3 out 4 perfect

Bought four of these knives. 3 were perfect but the fourth had a frame screw that was sticking out. It appeared to be cross threaded as I could not screw it in any further or take it out. I am sending it back, but I still like the knife. I have several leek’s that from Kershaw and I love them, but I like the pocket clip better on this Cryo. The blade steel is not as good as just opening a few Christmas gifts and minor use dulled the one I opened and carried, but it was easy to re sharpen. At first I just used a rod from my kitchen set, then finally just went and used a Lansky set. Sharp enough to shave arm hair now, but I know that won’t last long. For the money, it is a good buy. I saw the other review with pics showing a difference between the two knives from the same order (different thumb studs, frame/blade thickness, etc.) but all 4 of mine were the same. No difference … just a cross threaded frame screw.

Great knife.

I have a cyro 2 and I love that knife. I saw this as a deal of the day and for $18 I figured I’d grab this just because I love my other cyro2 so much. good for a spare for me or I may even like the smaller size better. came sharp and in good shape. 5/5 (key for scale)

Awesome knife

Great knife with an awesome finish. I like plain and this is pretty plain but in a really cool way. It really has nice curves and is just a really nice looking knife. Could it be more grippy? Sure but it’s fine, I haven’t dropped it or had it slide out of my hands. The blade is just sweet looking and cut’s great right out of the box. I’ve seen a lot of reviews that say the thumb studs are worthless on this knife but they’re not. It takes a little practice but once you get it, the blade whips open faster than using the flipper. The Cryo is nice and slim, rides really nice in your pocket and you can barely tell it’s there. I like a little weight to my knives so the weight is not a problem for me at all, sure maybe it’s a little hefty for it’s size but that just makes it feel more solid to me. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a great smaller knife.

Great value, good one if you just want a basic pocketknife with modern design features

Bought this knife about 3 months ago, after reading reviews and figuring out the answer to the question all potential knife-buyers need to ask themselves: just how much of a knife do I need?

I’d gladly recommend this knife if you are looking for one of this size.

This purchase is not my first experience with this knife maker and model – that alone should hint to my impression of it.
