Kershaw Cryo Review

Looking for a simple everyday carry pocket knife? Then Kershaw Cryo may be just the edc knife you need. The Cryo blade is 2.75” long, and the “speedsafe” assisted opening mechanism makes it easy to open one-handed. There’s also a lockbar stabilizer so the blade goes where it’s supposed to go when it opens, instead of opening part-way, and a thumbstud for controlled opening.

Best Every Day Carry Knife

The Cryo Knife handle has a pocketclip on the side for easy carrying, and the pocketclip can be positioned tip up or down, making it easier for lefties and righties to carry their Cryo where it’s most comfortable for them. The handle and the body are both steel, with a tarnish-resistant titanium carbo-nitride coating on the exterior for texture and to protect it from wear and tear. It’s a small blade, perfect for regular use, and—as some of the testimonials at Kershaw’s site note—it’s easy to sharpen after you’ve used it for a long time, and sharp knives are safer than dull ones.

Kershaw Cryo Specs

This is a classic Rick Hinderer design, but built in pure steel with matte grey titanium carbo-nitride coating on both blade and handle. The Kershaw Cryo (#1555TI) opens quickly with SpeedSafe assisted opening. Access it with the built-in Flipper or thumbstud. A sturdy framelock with lockbar stabilization ensures a solid lockup. This amazingly affordable everyday knife by Kershaw is destined to be the Hinderer for the rest of us.

Great knife, very pleased with it, but why not include a wrench?

 on December 8, 2017
By Nick
This has been a great knife so far. The edge came very sharp and seems to be wearing well as I’ve been using it every chance I get. I got this because I needed an everyday carry knife since the cheap ones I’ve gotten in the past haven’t satisfied me. This one is very nice. I like being able to position the pocket clip where I want it, and the pocket clip seems very strong and shouldn’t get bent very easily like some of my previous knives. The reason I deducted a star is that I feel they should have included a torx wrench for changing the pocket clip position. This is one of the main features of the knife but you need to locate a wrench independently in order to take advantage of it. Luckily I could get one very easily at work, but most are not going to be able to do that. And the screws are so small that the small wrench size required is not super common. If they included the wrench in the box (which would cost them less than $0.50) this would have been a 5 star review. Outside of that detail I have been very happy with this knife. I would certainly recommend this to others, but would make them aware of the wrench issue.

Very cool looking Rick Hinderer design, easy flip assist

First thing that caught my eye about this “pocket knife” was the very cool looking design…very unique and beautiful. I discovered that it was designed by Rick Hinderer who I’d never heard of before. Turns out he’s been making his own line of knives for quite some time and they’re known for their very high quality, uniquely beautiful design and also high price. Kershaw was smart in licensing his unique design for mass production which is why I’m able to own one. Of course it isn’t the same quality as Hinderer’s own knives but it gives consumers the chance to own a “licensed replica” for a much lower price.

I just received this knife after selling my Cryo 2 to my brother in law and its just what I wanted. It feels absolutely solid in the hand and is razor sharp. The cryo 2 was too big in my opinion, but I’m not a huge guy so I don’t want to take anything away from the Cryo 2. The blade is razor sharp and the assisted opening is QUICK. I was a little nervous I wouldn’t like the color because I ordered the Cryo 2 in the Blackwash which was really nice but so is the standard silver color this comes in, its actually quite nice. I would definitely recommend this knife and if you aren’t a huge guy, Im 5’11 165, this will probably be more comfortable than the Cryo 2.

This is my EDC knife. I was a long time CRKT fan but after having to send it in a couple times for repair, I decided to try this out. Mine has the nice matte gray color and looks just like it does in the picture. It has a very solid heft to it and is definitely a little heavier than my CRKT M16-10KZ (although it’s to be expected with all metal construction AND assist-open). With the little bit of weight, this knife feels significantly higher quality. I used to carry a Gerber EVO and this feels a bit sturdier in hand and is a bit bigger. The SpeedSafe mechanism opens with a satisfying snap and an appropriate amount of force. I would not worry about the SpeedSafe mechanism opening too forcefully for even my elderly grandmother’s arthritic hands but it still opens confidently and consistently. The edge holds sharp and I have only had to sharpen it once in the past year and even that was more because of preference than need. My brother loved it so much that he got the blackwash version (looks amazing btw and will probably be my next knife if I need to replace mine) and has not regretted it.

Best $30 knife you will ever use!

I don’t know how you beat this knife for the money. It looks cool, is pretty sharp, and has a nice weight to it. The finish does not scratch off even after wearing it as my daily carry for 2+ years.

Oooooh! Baby! Where has this knife been all my life?

This is the best value knife I’ve ever owned. It is super slim, has great configurability of the clip, deploys very well, and locks perfectly. Steel is great quality and tough. Finish is superb and frickin’ beautiful. I got this to carry weak side, because I could switch the clip to lefty and axis down. I can draw this knife weak side, with the blade pointed out perfectly. It’s made in china, but I’m a libertarian so…

Utilitarian Knife

I now own 3 pairs of this knife. I think the price provides a balance of performance while being cost effective and not a killer to lose. The knife sharpens easily cut hair with my lansky 5 stone. It doesn’t keep razor sharp for a long time, but I sharpen once a month and by that point it still effortlessly glides through packages. I don’t understand why more knives don’t carry deep pocket, if the clip matches your pants you can’t see this thing.

I’d gladly recommend this knife if you are looking for one of this size.

This purchase is not my first experience with this knife maker and model – that alone should hint to my impression of it.

Overall good knife with some flaws

I like this knife a lot. It came razor sharp out of the box and it’s got a lifetime warranty with free sharpening service. It feels really sturdy and it fits comfortably in my hand. It may be plain-looking but the finish is really nice. Deployment is quick and easy. But there are a few quirks that kept me from giving it 5 stars:
