Benchmade 940 Osborne Review
Benchmade 940 Pocket Knife is a masterfully created knife. Visually stunning, its looks are matched by expert design and top-quality materials. It’s perfectly suited to be an EDC knife and its dimensions and weight mean that it is easily stored in your pocket without a fuss. The S30V steel blade is sturdy and sharp, and able to keep its edge longer than most knives. Ergonomically, the design makes for easy handling and control. Overall, the 940 lives up to its company’s mantra, “It’s not a knife… it’s a Benchmade.” The 940 is in a league of its own.
Whether in your pocket or your hand, the slender curvature and contouring of the 940 Osborne knife make it a perfect everyday carry knife. The 940 Osborne is equipped with a S30V premium stainless-steel blade with a modified reverse Tanto design. The green anodized aluminum handle, meanwhile, is comfortable in the hand, with a stainless-steel liner and color-anodized titanium back spacer for longevity. Finally, the blade is a breeze to open thanks to the ambidextrous dual thumb stud opener. Other features include an Axis locking mechanism and a reversible steel pocket clip.
When we talk about the ideal EDC pocket knife we’re talking about the perfect blend of design. We’re not just talking about how well it holds its edge, or how good the material is. We’re talking about a blend of design, quality, capability, materials and ergonomics. The Benchmade 940 Osborne is one of the few knives I’ve come across that is an infusion of these factors. It’s unique. It’s practical. It’s top-quality.

Mine came hair shaving sharp and genuine even though it shipped by distributor "NetRush".

Ordered this knife through Benchmade but received it from a company called “NetRush”. Was afraid I might not get a genuine Benchmade but upon unpackaging from it’s nice box I knew that it was obviously high quality and genuine. Unlike what many people experienced mine came hair-cutting sharp out of the box, effortlessly cutting hair off my arm. I own and love a ton of Spyderco and this is my first foray into Benchmade. I love the flick style of Spyderco and honestly didn’t think I would like the “axis” lock mechanism but it’s indeed as good as everybody says. Been EDC’ing this knife for a few days instead of my PM2 and so far I really enjoy it. Fit and finish and blade centering was near perfect—I know this has been an issue with many Benchmade made knives, they must be really upping their game to match their prices. The only semi issue I had was the clip on this knife looked a little scratched up but it must be the style as the knife is perfect in every way otherwise. I plan on replacing the clip with a deep carry anyways (I hear you can request them for free from Benchmade.) No regrets with this purchase.
Perfect weight and size for EDC

This is as close to the perfect weight and size for my EDC as you can get. The blade shape and length works really well for everything from opening packages to cutting cheese and sausage by the lake. The axis lock is smooth and easy to open and close when used left handed. The ability to adjust to pocket clip to left hand carry make a big difference for me to include this knife in my EDC rotation. Didn’t like the standard pocket clip so I contacted Benchmade by email through their support webpage and asked for a new spear point parkerized clip. Benchmark sent the clip FREE of charge and was at my door within four days. Great American made company and products.
Perfect knife I love love love this knife it’s smooth …

Perfect knife I love love love this knife it’s smooth fast and very sharp well built and this is coming from a high end knife collector and I use this knife everyday, almost disappears in the pocket but comes alive when you need it to save the day for cutting your kids toys out of those vile packages and great for cutting everyday and heavy task items also.
QUALITY Control does not match price
Buttery smooth opening and closing with uneven cutting edge apex Bummer! MY SEVENTY years old birthday present was less than perfect. HAVE two Ganzos with better cutting edges. I am slowly doing a heavier grind on my coarse diamond stone trying to get the apex centered when this 940 needs sharpening after cutting up boxes. I own three other bench made knives with acceptable cutting edges and are now super sharp.
but think I am going to love this one
Don’t normally post a review on the same day I receive a product… but think I am going to love this one. I am a small guy and enjoy my PM2’s, but sometimes they are a little much for my slacks and shorts. This knife has a smaller footprint but with basically the same blade length. Not really a fan of green handles, but it is not an ugly green and the handle feels great in your hand! I did the paper cutting test and the knife failed. And then I tried to shave arm hair and was not impressed. BUT, when I tasked it with other light duty stuff… I learned in a hurry it came with one VERY sharp blade!!
BELIEVE THE HYPE
BELIEVE THE HYPE. Worth every penny. Best action I know of and i’m a Spyderco guy. Have had Griptlians, Crooked River. This Benchmade takes the cake. I bought and auto Mircotech LUDT to replace this knife, and I returned the Microtech. This blade is legit! Not to mention Benchmade has an awesome blade replacement deal 25$ send in the knife and they replace the blade. Can’t beat it. Will get another.
Good knife but not perfect

Good knife but not perfect. I installed an aftermarket pocket clip shortly after buying knife don’t think I would be carrying it anymore if I had not. Would like to see a cut out in handle to make thumb stud easier to use. Locking mechanism seems to collect debris more than most I am used to. Great feel in the hand and I love the blade profile.
Light and well balanced with excellent locking mechanism
This knife is smooth and well balanced. It is a much bigger knife than it feels like in your pocket. The locking mechanism is easy to manipulate and the blade locks in a very solid manner. Sharp enough to shave with out of the box. It just seems very well engineered. Wasn’t sure about the color but it has grown on me. Is it worth the cost? Don’t know. If I lost it would I buy it again? Yes!
Awesome knife, just what the man wanted

Just what my husband wanted. This knife is a great length and weight to fit comfortably in a man’s pocket. My husband carries this knife now every day in the front pocket of his dress slacks, it weighs less than 3 ounces, has a good blade length and handle (doesn’t feel too short in his hand), plus it opens incredibly easily while having a very safe lock system. He says he doesn’t even notice that he’s carrying it because it’s so light. At the same time, this knife is very sturdy, and came perfectly aligned and sharp as a razor. A knife enthusiast website recommended this as one of the best EDC knives, and they were right. Awesome quality.
